A new study by the University of Montreal researchers found that Celebrex, a powerful nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), is not effective against arthritis.
The study, presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Rheumatology, found that Celebrex is not effective at preventing the development of joint damage.
The study, by Dr. Jean-Pierre Mascarelli and colleagues, was published in theAnnals of Internal Medicine.
They found that Celebrex is significantly more effective than NSAIDs for the treatment of inflammatory arthritis in rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the tissue and causes inflammation. Celebrex is available in the form of a pill that’s taken by mouth and is taken daily for 3 months to treat pain.
“The clinical evidence for this particular group of drugs is limited, and they’re not the first choice for arthritis treatment,” says Dr. Mascarelli.
“The question of whether these drugs are superior to NSAIDs is a significant one, because NSAIDs are associated with higher rates of adverse reactions,” says Mascarelli.
A previous study published last year inshowed Celebrex is well-tolerated, and it is generally well-tolerated.
“We looked at data on inflammatory arthritis, which is one of the most common forms of arthritis,” says Mascarelli.
“We found that Celebrex is significantly more effective than NSAIDs for the treatment of inflammatory arthritis in rheumatoid arthritis.”

“The research team was not surprised at all by the results of this study,” says Mascarelli.
“It’s a good opportunity to look at the data and look at which drugs are more effective and which drugs are less effective,” he adds.
“The results of our study do show that Celebrex is well-tolerated, and we are now looking at whether it’s a good idea to take it daily or whether it’s worth a try to see how effective it is.”
The study, published inArchives of Rheumatology, found Celebrex is not effective at preventing the development of joint damage.
“We’re not aware of any research on arthritis-related joint damage,” says Mascarelli.
“But it’s important to note that the study did not show that the drugs are superior to NSAIDs in reducing joint inflammation or in preventing the development of arthritis, so this could be a good opportunity to look at the data on arthritis-related joint damage.”
“There’s still some debate around whether it is a good idea to use NSAIDs or to take them daily, or whether it’s worth trying to see how effective they are.”

CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE contains Celecoxib which belongs to group of medicines called Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE is used in adults to manage osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease), rheumatoid arthritis (inflammatory disease of joints), ankylosing spondylitis (chronic back pain), acute pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).
CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE is also used to manage juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (in children aged 2 years and above).
CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Celecoxib, sulfonamides, aspirin and/or other NSAIDs. It is also not recommended for use in patients with/had a history of an ulcer in stomach/intestines, bleeding in stomach/intestines, blood circulation problems (such as peripheral arterial disease), red itchy welts, inflammatory disease of the intestines (such as ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s disease).
The medicine is also not indicted for use in patients suffering from lung problems (such as asthma), heart diseases (such as heart failure, recent heart attack, heart block), severe liver disease (such as advanced hepatic insufficiency) and/or kidney disease (such as advanced renal insufficiency).
Before taking CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have diabetes, raised blood pressure, increased cholesterol, signs of fluid retention (such as swollen ankles and feet) and/or hyperkalemia (increased potassium level in blood).
CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women.
CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged 2 to 17 years) to manage only juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above) after consulting the doctor.
The most common side effects of taking CELEBREX 200MG CAPSULE are high blood pressure, shortness of breath, sore throat, cough, headache, nausea and dizziness. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.
